A small business owner should of course hire someone who has total knowledge in marketing. Even if you make your Internet marketing endeavor as grand and striking as those created by big companies, if it does not have the necessary content, then it will not attract customers.
Small business owners must create a convincing and creative Internet advertisement to encourage customers to avail their service or purchase their products. You may also try to offer a nice starting price or discount for customers to make them take a shot at your service or buy your products.
Having an effective Web advertisement will drive traffic on your website and will surely increase your profit. Aside from putting up an online ad, small business owners should also have knowledge on Search Engine Optimization.
This makes your listing be easily searched by your target market. The right usage of keywords will make your customers reach your business.
The internet has replaced the phone book as a method of attracting local customers. Recent studies have demonstrated that about 65 percent of customers use the internet in order to find local business information.
Furthermore, more than 80 percent of them use the search engines in order to obtain this information. This means that local business internet marketing can be an extraordinarily helpful tool, regardless of whether or not a business sells any products or services online.
While it is an excellent idea to hire professional help in order to optimize a website for the search engines, there are a few things that business owners who are inexperienced in the field can do quite easily on their own.
One of the most important things that local marketers can take advantage of are online local profile services.
These are the equivalent of the telephone book on the internet. Services such as Google Places, Yahoo Local, and Bing Local allow a firm to set up a profile that lets the search engines know about the business.
This requires a few simple steps and verification of the address in the form of a phone call or a post card. It is a good idea to upload a picture to the profile, as this makes a business appear more professional.
Another important step is ensuring that information about the business can be found on other sites, and that it is accurate. There are many services on the Net that continually search for local information, allowing people to review the business, providing pictures, and other information.
By submitting the business information to Localeze, infoUSA, and Acxiom. In some cases, inaccurate information can be obtained by these sites, and it is necessary for a business to contact these sites in order to ensure that the information is accurate.
Businesses taking advantage of local profile sites should encourage customers to review them. They should do so not just on the profile pages, but on invoices and other communications. Profiles with a great deal of reviews add credibility to a business, even if not all of the reviews are positive.
A local phone number should be listed on at least one prominent page of the website. This indicates the business location to the search engines, and provides them with information that can be displayed in local search results.
The same goes for a full physical address, which should ideally be located on every page of the site. If a business has more than one location, there should be a different landing page for each location. The search engines can get confused if multiple locations are listed on the same site. It should be clear that the two locations are distinct.
Local Business Internet Marketing Mistakes
The website was built without any consideration or understanding of fundamental direct marketing principles.
Most web designers I've met are talented graphic designers who know absolutely nothing about marketingfundamentals.
Therefore, it never surprises me when reviewing a potential client's website to find dozens of fundamental marketing mistakes staring me in the face.
Example: The website text (copy) talks about the company, its history, and captivates (ha ha) with a menu list of services. The site copy is invariably written in the first-person past tense "We have been in business since 1982" and fails to engage the reader who has a problem and is looking for a solution.
Good lead generating websites and web pages will have large portions written in the 2nd person present tense such as this: "Is your low water pressure driving you crazy?"
Too much flash and images, not enough content.
Example: A potential new client was just referred to me about 45 minutes ago. This company, located in beautiful southern California just might have the prettiest website I've ever seen.
The site is absolutely breathtaking; from the opening flash video to the entire site content, complete with trendy music playing in the background. The site is easy to look at and pretty easy to navigate around.
So what's the problem?
The entire site is built in Adobe Flash which the search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing cannot read! So to this company's human visitors the site seems to have around 20 pages of nice content, but to the search engines it looks like one page with essentially zero content.
In order for your website to attract and convert prospects to customers your site content has to be found and understood by both the search engines and your human visitors.
Now, while this website is the most extreme example I have ever seen, please take a look at your site and ask yourself if it is structured to be persuasive both to search engines and to your human visitors, especially your new potential customers.
There you have them, two fundamental local business internet marketing mistakes that you now know how to avoid.
One of the quickest ways to move forward in growing your business is to avoid profit and resource draining mistakes that others have already made! Right? Well here is a free resource that can help you avoid even more mistakes.
Even local businesses who conduct very little business online can take advantage of the internet. The fact of the matter is, today more people find out about a new business through the internet than they do from the local newspaper, phone book or flyer.
Setting up a web presence is a powerful way to develop a business. By utilizing the power of local business internet marketing, a company can spread awareness about its products and services in a way that was not possible before.
Skilled local marketers take advantage of the fact that a great deal of people discover local businesses through services such as Google Maps, Bing Maps, and MapQuest. Whether or not a potential customer uses these services directly, the results of these mapping programs are often prominently displayed in the results of search engines.
This is especially true when a person searches for a product and specifies the location.
Google, Yahoo, and Bing will all display a list of five or ten local businesses in the search results when a location is specified in the keyword phrase searched for. A business is much more likely to get noticed if it ranks in the top five local search results.
There are two primary methods of promoting a local business internet marketing. They are referred to as search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM). SEO is the process of optimizing a site so that a search engine understands the relevance of the site in relation to specific keywords so that the site will be displayed prominently whenever those keywords are searched for.
There are many factors relevant to SEO, but the most important elements are the quality and quantity of links from other sites, the prevalence of keywords on the site and on the sites linking to it, and the internal organization of the site.
When these factors are used in combination with local techniques, such as posting the phone number and address of the business on every page of the site, and claiming profiles with Google Local Business Center, Yahoo Local, and Merchant Center, a business can claim a larger percentage of the local internet traffic.
Local internet marketing is really an easy way to start a online marketing before starting your business all over the world.
